Medical Perspectives on Impaired DrivingMay 24, 2002Every day, motor vehicle collisions claim lives prematurely. While the scientific literature has focused on the contributions made by substance use to these fatalities, important public concerns have also been raised about medical conditions and prescription medications that can affect an individual’s ability to drive safely. In response to this public health issue, the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) is pleased to provide you with “Medical Perspectives on Impaired Driving”, a guidebook for physicians treating patients whose ability to drive a motor vehicle might be impaired by a medical condition. Written primarily for physicians, this guide contains clinical information on medical conditions that can lead to impaired driving abilities, important risk management information, and extensive driving and mobility assistance resources for patients. Please contact the Department of Health Systems/Health Policy at (781) 434-7222 for more information.
