5th Annual Women's Cardiac Health Conference -
Conquering Cardiovascular Disease: Integrating Latest Research Into Your
Practice
Sponsored by the Massachusetts Medical Society in
Collaboration with the American Heart Association
Schedule:
7:30 am Registration and Continental Breakfast
8:00 am - 12:30 pm Program - see program brochure for detailed schedule (6 pages,

Description:
Medical literature shows that heart disease is the
leading cause of death of American women and kills six times as many
women as breast cancer. Yet, women are less likely to visit their physician due
to a concern about heart disease. Updated evidence-based guidelines point to the need to
vigorously address CVD risk in women. With the vast plethora of contradictory information
available on diet, patients are more confused than ever about diet
choices to decrease the likelihood of their developing heart
disease. This conference will
address a variety of topics in support of this issue, including the
impact of alcohol on cardiovascular health, inflammation/c-reaction
protein and other biomarkers, gender differences in the diagnosis and
treatment of cardiovascular disease. In addition, the American Heart Association will offer
present recently published research which addresses several health
factors as they relate to prevention: smoking, diabetes, high blood
pressure, high cholesterol, and
exercise.
Objectives:
After participating in this activity, attendees will be able
to:
• Cite the latest data from the American Heart Association's
2020 Impact Goal regarding heart disease prevention factors;
• Discuss the effects on alcohol consumption on the heart and
advise patients of the risks and benefits of drinking alcohol;
• Explain the relationship between inflammation and
atherosclerosis;
• Describe the role of C-reactive protein (CRP) in predicting
recurrent cardiovascular and stroke events;
• Identify how gender differences influence risk factors,
presentations, and outcomes associated with cardiovascular disease in
women;
• Provide resources for your patients recommended by and
provided by the American Heart Association.
