MMS Testimony in Opposition to S 1756, "An Act Relative to the Modernization of Optometric Patient Care"
(June 30, 2009)
This bill would expand the scope of practice for optometrists by allowing them to prescribe oral therapeutic medications, and treat glaucoma and ocular abnormalities of the eye and “adjacent tissue”. | MMS Testimony in Opposition to H 2044 and S 875, "An Act Relative to the Registration of Podiatrists"
(June 30, 2009)
The MMS wishes to be recorded in opposition to these two pieces of legislation that would extend the scope of practice of podiatry beyond the diagnosis and treatment of the foot to also include the ankle and the leg below the knee. The legislation also removes language excluding the amputation of the foot and toes from podiatry’s scope of practice. It allows the “partial” amputation of the foot but does not define what partial means, leaving that to the podiatry board. | MMS Testimony in Opposition to H 2060, "An Act Relative to Optometrists Scope of Practice" and H 2066 "An Act Relative to Optometrists"
(June 30, 2009)
The MMS opposes these bills on the grounds that there is sufficient access to ophthalmologists to treat any eye disease and that optometrists are simply seeking to expand their business at the expense of their patients. | MMS Testimony in Support of Changes to the Regulations of the Division of Health Care Finance and Policy
(June 30, 2009)
. In this time of fiscal shortfalls we appreciate the Patrick Administration’s commitment to the funding of health care for the citizens of the Commonwealth. We have strong hopes that the new MMIS system will result in more clean claims being paid in a timely manner, an eventual reduction in staff resources needed for billing and an overall administrative simplification for medical practices. | MMS Testimony Regarding HB 1102, and SB 549, "An Act Relative to Health Care Affordability"
(June 24, 2009)
The MMS is in support of the provisions of House Bill 1102 and Senate Bill 549, "An Act Relative to Health Care Affordability," that would expand the definition of "affordability" under the Massachusetts Health Reform Law (Chapter 58 of the Acts of 2006) to assure that Massachusetts citizens who truly cannot meet the "individual mandate" due to high copayments and deductibles will not be penalized. | MMS Testimonies Regarding SB 475, "An Act Relative to Promoting the Efficient Use of Health Care Revenues"
(June 24, 2009)
The MMS is in support of the objectives of Senate Bill 475, "An Act Relative to Promoting the Efficient Use of Health Care Revenues," legislation that would require that health insurers doing business in the Commonwealth limit the amount of their spending on non-health expenditures based on their size in the Commonwealth and their Massachusetts-associated revenues. | MMS Testimony in Opposition to H 1042, "An Act Relative to Affordable Health Insurance"
(June 24, 2009)
The Massachusetts Medical Society wishes to be recorded in opposition to House Bill 1042, "An Act Relative to Affordable Health Insurance." This bill would prevent the Division of Insurance from disapproving health insurance policies that do not include all mandated benefits. | MMS Testimony in Support of HB 1077, "An Act Relative to Minimizing Unnecessary Health Care Costs by Streamlining Administrative Requirements"
(June 24, 2009)
In light of the extraordinary burdens that are integral to the practice of medicine in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Medical Society has consistently advocated for examination and reduction of the administrative burdens associated with the treatment of patients. | MMS Testimony in Support of H 2073 and S 834, "An Act Relative to the Expansion of Medical Peer Review"
(June 23, 2009)
The MMS wishes to be recorded in strong support of these two identical pieces of legislation. There have been many initiatives over the last several years in Massachusetts and in the rest of the country to reduce medical errors. | MMS Testimony in Support of SB 814 and HB 3597
(June 23, 2009)
The Massachusetts Medical Society wishes to be recorded in strong support of Senate Bill 814, “An Act to Provide for the Autonomy of Hospital Medical Staffs,” and House Bill 3597, “An Act Providing for the Information Submitted by Hospital Medical Staff,” related legislation aimed at protecting the independence of hospital medical staff organizations and personnel so that they can continue to do their work. |
