MMS International Medical Graduates Section Mission and Overview

Mission Statement of the MMS International Medical Graduates Section (MMS-IMGS)
The purpose of the Section is to:

  • Provide a forum to discuss the needs and concerns of international medical graduates
  • Identify potential ways to address these needs and concerns through education, advocacy, and outreach
  • Ensure that the issues of international medical graduate physicians receive the attention of the MMS governance

Overview of the MMS-IMGS
In 1998, the Society’s special committee on International Medical Graduates was established as an official Section by the Society’s House of Delegates. The creation of a Section represented an important milestone as it expanded participation to all international medical graduate physician members of the Massachusetts Medical Society.

The MMS-IMGS is currently led by an executive committee of nine members elected by its membership as well as one resident representative appointed by the MMS Resident Physician Section. Each member of the executive committee is elected for a three-year term with nominations and elections held annually via mailings to the MMS-IMGS membership.

One goal of the MMS-IMGS Executive Committee is outreach to non-member IMGs and other ethnic medical associations. The Executive Committee would like to establish an interactive dialogue with various other ethnic physician associations in Massachusetts in order to work together in an effort to fulfill the respective missions of each group.

The MMS-IMGS looks forward to continuing to represent the interests of this diverse and active segment of the MMS. If you are an international medical graduate physician and would like to get involved in the Section, please contact Erin Riley, MMS-IMGS Staff Liaison.
