Senate Majority Leader William H. Frist, M.D. Delivers Shattuck Lecture

The year is 2014, and the American health care system is patient-centered, consumer-driven, and provider-friendly.

This optimistic prediction came from U.S. Senate Majority Leader William H. Frist, M.D., who delivered the 2004 Shattuck Lecture to an overflow luncheon audience on May 15. Dr. Frist is also a leading advocate for a federal solution to professional-liability reform.

Warning that “our health care system will deteriorate unless we act,” Dr. Frist added that mounting health care costs could be curbed if consumers used more of their own money to access services.
