The Massachusetts Medical Society, in cooperation with the Boston
Medical Library and the Countway Library of Medicine, has developed the
Boston Medical Library (BML) Branch as a benefit of MMS membership.
The BML Branch is located on the second floor of MMS Headquarters,
and is staffed by a full-time librarian, Elizabeth Fitzpayne, Monday
through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The library is open around the
clock, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Directions

The BML Branch offers MMS members, MMS staff, and BML members access,
via the librarian, to the vast resources of the Countway Digital Library
and the Harvard University Libraries, one of the world's most extensive
collections available to the medical community.
The Countway Digital Library offers access to a growing collection of
nearly 2,000 full-text journals, 70 databases, 65 full-text textbooks,
and updated website links. The Harvard Libraries portal contains 4800
electronic journals and 395 other e-resources. The Hollis Catalog of the
Harvard University Libraries is a database comprising over 9 million
records for books, journals and other materials. The branch librarian is
able to draw on these substantial resources to provide services, such as
mediated literature searches, reference service, and document delivery.
The branch librarian is your gateway to databases, bibliographic
citations, abstracts, articles, reviews, extensive full-text journals
and books, websites, government publications, practice guidelines and
patient information.
The BML branch is able to provide rapid turnaround due to the
availability of resources. MMS members can contact the librarian by
e-mail, fax, telephone or mail. The librarian will deliver the search
results in accordance with the member’s preference, reducing the
need for travel to the library.
