About the Worcester District Medical Society
The Society, founded in 1794, remains dedicated to helping physicians
serve their patients and maintaining and improving the quality of health
care. Worcester District Medical Society is part of the federation of
organized medicine which includes the Massachusetts Medical Society and
the American Medical Association serving as an advocate for physicians
and their patients. With its offices in beautiful Mechanics Hall, it's
one of the oldest medical societies in the United States and remains
dedicated to helping physicians serve their patients. The Medical
Society publishes Worcester Medicine, a quarterly magazine
focusing on national and local health care issues.
The Worcester Medical Library, Inc., was founded by the Society in
1798. Today it exists as a collection of rare books and artifacts that
has been transformed into a center for the history of medicine in this
region, offering references in medical history. For more information
