Handwashing Curriculum for Teachers

Dear Educator:

The Massachusetts Medical Society's "Good Health Is In Your Hands" handwashing campaign teaches people of all ages about the importance of proper handwashing.

As part of the campaign, curriculum experts from Bright Horizons Children's Centers have designed a handwashing curriculum geared toward pre-school aged children. The curriculum consists of:

  1. A brief Message to the Teacher explaining why handwashing is an important health concern;
  2. 10 hands-on activities that teach the skills and ideas behind handwashing and good hygiene. The activities also reinforce verbal, listening, and social skills, while encouraging creativity. Required materials are simple and inexpensive, and most are already available in classrooms. A sample activity sheet is enclosed;
  3. A cassette tape of the handwashing campaign theme song "Wash My Hands" by Massachusetts-based singer/songwriter Scott Kepnes. Lyrics and sheet music are included;
  4. Felt character patterns for flannel board activities; and
  5. Two handwashing posters for the classroom.

The curriculum costs $20, including postage and handling. Allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. To order by phone, call 1-800-843-6356. For mail orders, please download the order card and return it to:
