Disaster and Primary Care: How to Protect Your Patients and Your Practice

Description:
Primary care physicians, pediatricians, and allied health practitioners must be included in emergency and disaster planning in order to prevent a primary care crisis following a disaster.  Attendees will view a presentation of case studies highlighting how primary care can fail in a disaster, and be educated on how to prepare their patients and their practice in the event of such a situation.

Objectives:
After participating in this activity, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify and describe the problems that arise when primary care fails in a disaster situation.
  • Assess the current state of your practice and your ability to maintain care.
  • Create a play to continue primary care services to your patients throughout a disaster.
  • Develop a strategy to preserve medical records and reimbursement documentation.

Accreditation:
The Massachusetts Medical Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of 2.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This activity meets the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine's criteria for risk management study.

The Massachusetts Medical Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
