Overview
Pandemic Flu: Practical
Information and Strategies for Preparedness is sponsored by the
Massachusetts Medical Society and its Committee on Preparedness in
collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This
online education program, presented in a slide format, includes
information and resources for physicians. Influenza is a serious
disease. Vaccine levels for both influenza and pneumococcal vaccine are
not where they should be. Physicians need to know that . This
program will ensure that physicians have the most up-to-date information
and resources on influenza and the current pandemic.

Intended Audience
The program will educate health
care providers about the similarities and differences among, seasonal
influenza, novel influenza strains and pandemic influenza. Physicians
can use the information in this activity and share it with their
patients.

Objectives

Describe the similarities and
differences among seasonal, novel and pandemic influenza

Assess the impact of seasonal
influenza and the current impact of 2009 H1N1 pandemic
influenza

Understand the steps required for
novel influenza strains to cause a pandemic

Summarize what can be done on the
individual, community and state level to prevent the spread of influenza
and prepare for a pandemic

Identify prevention and
containment strategies for patients and caregivers

Credit
Deadline for completing the course
is January 31, 2010.
The Massachusetts Medical Society
designates this educational activity for a maximum of 2 AMA PRA
Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim
credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the
activity.
This program meets the criteria of
the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for risk management
study.
Participants will receive a
confidential report of their examination score. You must receive a score
of 70% or better to receive AMA PRA Category 1
Credit™. A confirmation of credit will be issued at the
end of the course to those who successfully complete the
examination.
The Massachusetts Medical Society
is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical
Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for
physicians.

Information and Strategies for Preparedness and all associated
course materials are available free of charge. An opportunity to
complete an exam and receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™
for a nominal fee is available at the end of the course. The course fees
are as follows:

Non-MMS member: $40 ($20 per credit)
