Course Overview
What is the responsibility of the physician to their patient and the
public? Can they discuss their elder patient with their family?
Are they liable if their patient injures a third party? How can
physicians reduce their risk of potential liability without breaching
patient confidentiality? All of these questions and more are

Course Objectives

Contrast patient confidentiality and professional liability
concerns when assessing whether a patient is unfit to drive.

Describe the impaired driver reporting requirements in
the state of Massachusetts.

Develop risk management strategies that may mitigate
potential liability in your practice.

Compare imparied driver regulations and recommendations by the AMA
and Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine (BRM).
Course Credit
Deadline for completing the course is September 28, 2010.
The Massachusetts Medical Society designates Legal Advisor:
Reporting Patients to the Registry of Motor Vehicles for
a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians
should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their
participation in the activity.
This program meets the criteria of the Massachusetts Board of
Registration in Medicine for risk management study.
Participants will receive a confidential report of their examination
score. You must receive a score of 70% or better to receive AMA PRA
Category 1 Credit™. A confirmation of credit will be
issued at the end of the course to those who successfully complete the
examination.
The Massachusetts Medical Society is accredited by the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing
medical education for physicians.

Course Fees
Legal Advisor: Reporting Patients to the Registry of Motor
Vehicles and all associated course materials are available
free of charge. An opportunity to complete an exam and receive AMA
PRA Category 1 Credit™ for a nominal fee is available at the
end of the course. The course fees are as follows:
