Overview and Background

 MMS Stance

  • We advocate for aggressive MassHealth outreach programs to ensure that 100 percent of Massachusetts children have health coverage, whether through MassHealth, Commonwealth Care, or a private insurer.
  • MassHealth reimbursement must be at levels that are sufficient and allow physician practices to sustainably treat their existing MassHealth patients, and accept new MassHealth patients.
  • MassHealth patients must not be excluded from the patient-protection provisions in state law, especially those enacted in Chapter 141 of the Acts of 2000 (the Massachusetts "managed care reform" law).

 MMS Achievements

  • MMS successfully advocated for increases in MassHealth reimbursements in the state health care reform law of 2006 (also known as "Chapter 58").
  • MMS successfully worked with state and federal officials to provide a smooth transition to the mandated use of tamper-proof prescription pads.
