Physician Practice Resource Center
 The
Physician Practice Resource Center (PPRC) is designed to support
the business operations of physician practices by providing
MMS members with practical resources and services.
Using the PPRC website, www.massmed.org/pages/pprc.asp,
members can quickly and easily access the practice management
resources and services offered by the MMS using the following
topic areas:
- Payer Relations and Billing
- Practice Ownership and Operations
- Information Technology
- Regulatory Compliance
PPRC Resources
The resource guides developed by the
PPRC are designed to provide members with concise information
on complex practice management topics, supply relevant websites
and references to other resources for practices that would
like to independently research a topic in more detail, and
be useful for smaller practices with limited resources available.

The Hassle
Factor Program
The MMS helps you to navigate the
system, documenting physician complaints and addressing
concerns regarding patient access, utilization management,
credentialing, and claims resolution with commercial plans,
Medicare, and MassHealth. Physician practices can help identify
those issues that are most troublesome and time-consuming

Technology Products
Assistance is available to assess
technology needs and purchase new software products with
a member discount from athenahealth, e-MDs, Greenway Medical
Technologies, and DrFirst.
Coding and Practice Management Seminars
The PPRC sponsors seminars at the MMS
Headquarters in Waltham and at other sites across the state
on various coding and practice management topics. Experienced
PPRC staff develops these seminars to be useful for practices
of all sizes on topics that include HIPAA, information technology,
payer relations, and practice workflow. Coding seminars are
developed for the PPRC by the coding specialists at The Coding
Center, a tri-state collaborative between the medical societies
in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. These coding seminars
are presented by certified procedural coders and include topics
such as Evaluation and Management Coding, CPT and ICD-9 Coding
Changes. Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits are offered
at PPRC seminars as appropriate. Upcoming seminars are posted
on the PPRC website at www.massmed.org/pages/pprc.asp.
Practice Management Consulting Services
The MMS Practice Management Consulting
Services can conduct a variety of consulting projects for
individual physicians or group practices. This exciting new
service is designed to identify potential improvements related
to current operations, help practices to resolve specific
or more complex practice management problems, and deliver
a quality service to MMS members at a competitive rate. Practice

Physician Health Services
 Physicians
and their families are not immune from substance abuse issues,
emotional problems, and serious illness. Physician Health
Services (PHS), a nonprofit subsidiary of the MMS, helps prevent,
identify, refer to treatment, guide, and monitor the recovery
of physicians suffering from substance use, behavioral health
concerns, physical illness, and mental illness.
The services provided by PHS are completely
confidential and available to all physicians, residents, medical
students, medical group practices, or hospitals in the Commonwealth.
PHS also serves as a referral resource for physicians and
their families seeking comprehensive support and recovery
services.
PHS accepts charitable contributions
and receives approximately 50 percent of its annual support
from the MMS.

Women’s Lecture Series
To recognize and celebrate the expanding
ranks of women in the field, the MMS Committee on Women in
Medicine has developed a lecture series to address topics
of interest to female physicians. Topics in the series have
ranged from professional liability insurance to financial
planning. The Committee plans to offer other lectures and
networking meetings for women three to four times per year
in various locations throughout the state.
