ACCME Announces Updated Accreditation Criteria
September 2006
There is widespread interest in assuring that
CME accredited within the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical
Education (ACCME) system contributes to patient
safety and practice improvement, provides evidence-based content,
and is independent of commercial
interests.
At its July 2006 meeting,
the ACCME Board of Directors adopted updated compliance criteria that
will focus on rewarding accredited CME providers for documenting change
and improvement in their practice of CME as a Bridge to Quality. Learning and change will be the
goals – both for the learners and for the
providers.
On September 5, 2006, the
ACCME publicly announced the Updated Accreditation
Criteria. These updates are reflected and explained in the
ACCME’s document, “CME As a Bridge to Quality:
Updated Accreditation Criteria”. Visit the ACCME
website, http://www.accme.org/ and click on News Releases to access further
information.
Together, the ACCME and the MMS
will work to ensure that resources and support are available to help MMS
accredited CME providers understand and transition their CME programs to
the Updated Accreditation Criteria. More information will follow
in the coming months. If you have questions, please call Danna G.
