Course Overview
Reducing Errors, Liability in
Patient Handoffs is jointly sponsored by the Massachusetts
Medical Society and Lawyers Weekly, Inc., publishers of Massachusetts
Medical Law Report. The following CME activity includes the
Massachusetts Medical Law Report article, "Hazards lurking in patient
handoffs" followed by The Physician's Corner with risk management
strategies.
Intended Audience
This course is intended for
physicians and allied health professionals.

Course Objectives

Describe the relationship between
problems in communication “handoffs” and medical
errors.

Explain the rules issued by the
Joint Commission to reduce the risk of errors in patient handoffs.
-
Review strategies implemented by
other health care organizations to reduce risk and liability.
-
Examine the objectives of the
National Patient Safety Goals for hospital and ambulatory care.

is December 16, 2011.
The Massachusetts Medical Society
designates this enduring material for a maximum of 1
AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should
claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their
participation in the activity.
This program meets the criteria of
the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for risk management
study.
Participants will receive a
confidential report of their examination score. You must receive a score
of 70% or better to receive AMA PRA Category 1
Credit™. A confirmation of credit will be issued at the
end of the course to those who successfully complete the
examination.

implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the Joint
