Started! held at MMS Headquarters in Waltham, MA on October

Course Overview
This module describes the anatomy
of an electronic health record, (EHR). You will understand the
components of an EHR and the many differences in tools utilized for a
paper-based practice and an electronic health record based practice.
These differences will be described and explained. At the end of the
presentation, you will understand how an EHR will impact your daily
practice life.
Instructions for Completing this Course
and Exam
The following course was developed
from a live program. The course presentation will open in
a separate player window displaying the presentation slides,
synchronized audio and transcripts. In order to view this course, you
will need to download free Flash 8
software or higher if you do not already have it
installed on your computer.
When you are done viewing the
presentation module, close the window and click Proceed to Exam
in the left navigation bar. You will be directed through the
eCommerce screens. After payment is received, the exam will
display.
After completing the required
reading through the Course Information below, click on
Start Course to begin the activity.

physicians and practice administrators who are in the early stages of
EHR adoption.

is January 31, 2009.
The Massachusetts Medical Society
designates E.H.R. 101 for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1
Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit
commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
This program meets the criteria of
the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for risk management
study.
Participants will receive a
confidential report of their examination score. You must receive a score
of 70% or better to receive AMA PRA Category 1
Credit™. A confirmation of credit will be issued at the
end of the course to those who successfully complete the
examination.
This activity has been planned and
implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the Joint
Sponsorship of the Massachusetts Medical Society, Blue Cross Blue Shield
of Massachusetts and Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative.

Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for

An opportunity to complete an exam and receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit
for a nominal fee is available at the end of the course. The course fees

Course Faculty
Charles M. Kilo, MD is the CEO
of GreenField Health, a network of innovative primary care practices and
consulting group serving healthcare focused technology companies and
clinical organizations interested in medical practice, improvement and
redesign. Dr. Kilo is a Fellow of the Institute for Healthcare
Improvement where he was previously the Vice President. At IHI, he
developed and led the International Idealized Design of Clinical Office
Practice Initiative. This work has sparked a national focus on practice
performance and redesign. Dr. Kilo speaks frequently on topics related
to healthcare quality, heath system design, healthcare improvement
technology and medical practice improvement. He is a practicing
internist with subspecialty training in infectious diseases. He attended
Washington University School of Medicine where he also completed his
Internal Medicine Training. He subsequently completed an Infectious
Disease Fellowship, and Masters of Public Health at Harvard. Dr.
Kilo and Dr. Mark Leavitt, as medical director, coauthored a recently
released book entitled “Medical Practice Transformation with
Information Technology”.
