COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Participate is the assessment and development of hospital and medical staff bylaws

  • Define the purpose of medical staff by-laws

  • Suggest solutions to problematic bylaws

  • Explore the peer review process stressing the importance of communication and the danger of conflict

  • Define liability in peer review

  • Explore what the law offers and requires in peer review

COURSE CREDIT

Deadline for completing the course is December 31, 2008.

The Massachusetts Medical Society designates The Hospital Physician Relationship: Where Do You Stand? for a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This program meets the criteria of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for risk management study.

Participants will receive a confidential report of their examination score. You must receive a score of 70% or better to receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  A confirmation of credit will be issued at the end of the course to those who successfully complete the examination.

The Massachusetts Medical Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

*Presentation 1: Hospital and Medical Staff Bylaws is designated for 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and Presentation 2: The Peer Review Process is designated for 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

COURSE FEES

The Hospital Physician Relationship: Where Do You Stand? course and all associated course materials are available free of charge. An opportunity to complete an exam and receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit for a nominal fee is available at the end of the course. The course fees are as follows:

Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) Member: $10 per module credit

Non-MMS member: $20 per module credit
