Berkshire

Thomas Perls, M.D., will be the guest speaker at the Berkshire District meeting on Tues., March 27 at 6 p.m. at The Country Club in Pittsfield.

Charles River

A delegates meeting is scheduled for Wed., March 14 at 6:30 p.m. at MMS Headquarters.

Save the date: The District annual meeting will be held on Wed., April 25 at the St. Botolph Club in Boston. Watch your mail for a meeting brochure.

Scholarships are available to students who are finishing their first year of medical school at an approved U.S. institution and who live in Needham, Newton, Waltham, Wellesley or Weston. The deadline for application submissions is April 1.

Essex South

Jeff Drazen, M.D., editor-in-chief of The New England Journal of Medicine, will be the guest speaker at the district meeting, on Wed., March 7 at 6 p.m. at the King's Grant Inn, Danvers.

Hampden

The Hampden District will hold its 8th annual Medico-Legal Forum on Mon., March 12 at the Delaney House in Holyoke. Congressman John W. Olver will speak on the medical-legal implications of the Patient's Bill of Rights.

The district is sponsoring High School Doctor for a Day, a mentoring program for area high school students who are interested in the field of medicine, on Thurs., March 15. Alicia O.M. Ross, M.D., is program chair.

On Fri., March 30, the district will celebrate its annual Doctor Appreciation Day by distributing carnations to hospitals and doctors' offices.

Middlesex

The Middlesex District annual meeting is scheduled for Sat., March 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of Science in Boston. The evening will include a show in the Mugar Omni Theater.

Suffolk

Mary Kraft, M.D., will present on "Spirituality in Medicine" at the district meeting on Wed., March 7 at 6 p.m. at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston.

Worcester

The Worcester District will host a night out to see the National Orchestra of Spain, with Pepe Romero on classical guitar, on Wed., March 7, at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. A pre-concert reception will be held at 7 p.m. followed by the concert at 8.

The district will host a medical education conference titled "The Worcester Drug Scene: An Inside Look," on Wed., March 14 at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Worcester. Guest speakers include Tina Murphy, Drug Enforcement Administration special agent (formerly undercover); Cynthia Aaron, M.D., of the Emergency Department at UMass Memorial Health Care; and Ann Phelan, MA/CADAC, Fallon Community Health Plan. CME credit: 2 hours of category 1 credit.

CME Credit/Accreditation: The Worcester District Medical Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of two hours awarded in category 1 credit toward the American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity. The Worcester District Medical Society is accredited by the MMS to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. All faculty participating in continuing education programs sponsored by the Worcester District Medical Society are expected to disclose to the program audience any real or apparent conflict(s) of interest related to the content of their presentation(s).

The district will host an Antique Show and Tell on Wed., March 21 at 6 p.m. at Tiano's Restaurant. A representative from Skinner's Auction House in Bolton will examine your treasures over a delicious dinner.

The district will hold its annual business meeting on Wed., April 11. Location TBD.
