Cardiologist Thomas Sullivan, M.D., Elected MMS President

At the Annual Meeting of the House of Delegates in May, Thomas E. Sullivan, M.D., was elected to serve as president of the MMS for the 2003–2004 term. Dr. Sullivan, a Danvers-based specialist in cardiology and internal medicine, holds an appointment at the North Shore Medical Center and maintains a private practice at the Women's Health Center in Danvers.

Dr. Sullivan has served in many capacities at the MMS, most recently as president-elect for 2002-2003. He has also been vice president (2001-2002), a member of the Society's Board of Trustees, chair of the Committee on Information Technology, and a member of the Committee on the Quality of Medical Practice. He is an alternate delegate from the MMS to the American Medical Association and is a past president of the Essex South District.

Outside his work with the MMS, Dr. Sullivan has served as an executive trustee for Cable Memorial Hospital in Ipswich; as president of the medical staff at Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital; and as a member of the Medical Staff Executive Committee at the North Shore Medical Center. He was also an associate medical director for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts for 11 years. He currently serves as chair of the Confidentiality and Security Steering Committee at Partners Healthcare System.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Holy Cross College and spent one year at the Sorbonne in Paris. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York. He then went on to a fellowship in cardiology at Tufts New England Medical Center.
