Edward Millermaier , MD, is
the chief medical and operating officer in the Ambulatory Care
Division at Borgess Health in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is
responsible for just under 100 providers, predominantly primary
care ancillary services including radiology, lab, CT scanning,
PT/OT, integrative medicine, occupational health, wellness, and the
fitness center. As part of the strategic planning team for Borgess
Ambulatory Care, he introduced the goal of 1,000,000 ambulatory
touches by 2012. To date, Borgess is on track to achieve this goal
ahead of schedule. Dr. Millermaier is a graduate of the Medical
College of Wisconsin. He completed an internship in family medicine
at Cleveland Metro General Hospital and a three-year residency
including a one-year chief residency in primary care internal
medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Millermaier is an emerging expert in ambulatory care
management. His interests are in underserved and vulnerable
populations, motivating people to do their best in any setting, and
creative new models of care. He is especially interested in
changing how health care is delivered to assure the vitality and
viability of primary care.
Zeev E. Neuwirth, MD, SM, is
the chief of clinical effectiveness and innovation at Harvard
Vanguard Medical Associates, an affiliate of Atrius Health. Dr.
Neuwirth began his career as an academic general internist with a
particular focus on doctorpatient communication and
relationshipcentered care. His articles on humanism in health care
have been published in medical journals as well as in the local and
national media. The focus of much of his work over the past decade
has been in team building, leadership development, organizational
change, and health care strategy. In his current role, he is
responsible for leading an organization-wide effort to transform
the culture and quality of health care delivery. Dr. Neuwirth
previously served as chief of internal medicine at Harvard
Vanguard's flagship Kenmore practice. He attended Tufts University,
the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and completed
his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Mount
Sinai Hospital. Dr. Neuwirth is also a certified family and group
therapist, trained at the renowned Ackerman Institute for the
Family. He also holds a master of science in health care management
from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Edward B. Noffsinger , PhD,
is the vice president of shared medical appointments and
group-based disease management at Harvard Vanguard Medical
Associates, an affiliate of Atrius Health. Considered a pioneer in
the area of group medical visits, Dr. Noffsinger is the originator
of the drop-in group medical appointment (DIGMA) and the physicals
shared medical appointment (PSMA) models. He is a nationally and
internationally recognized expert in the area of group visits and
an advisor to medical groups and health care organizations around
the country and the world. Dr. Noffsinger and his team at Harvard
Vanguard Medical Associates, an affiliate of Atrius Health will
have launched over 50 DIGMAs and PSMAs in his first two years
there. He previously worked at the Kaiser Permanente Medical
Centers in Santa Clara and San Jose and was the director of
clinical access improvement at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.
His work in the area of group visits has been featured in numerous
medical journals, and he is widely published in the field. Dr.
Noffsinger has given well over a thousand invited presentations in
the private, public, and government health care sectors - both
nationally and internationally.
Debra Prescott is the director
and program manager of shared medical appointments at Harvard
Vanguard Medical Associates, an affiliate of Atrius Health in
Newton, Massachusetts. Ms. Prescott plans, directs, and oversees
all activities surrounding the development, implementation, and
clinical management of the shared medical appointment program at
Atrius Health. She has worked for Harvard Vanguard Medical
Associates for over 25 years. Previously, she was the specialty
administrator for pediatrics and served as business operations
manager for a number of years at Harvard Vanguard Medical
Associates. Ms. Prescott completed her undergraduate degree at
Aquinas and Stonehill Colleges and completed an Executive
Leadership for Change Program at Boston College.
