Nancy Donovan, MD,
is a board-certified psychiatrist in private practice with special
interests in the medicine-psychiatry interface and geriatric
medicine and psychiatry. She received her medical degree from the
Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and
completed psychiatric residency training at Stanford University
Medical Center. She has served on the clinical faculties of Harvard
Medical School, the University of Medicine and Dentistry - New
Jersey Medical School, and the Stanford University School of
Medicine. Dr. Donovan is a member of the MMS Committee on Women in
Medicine and represents the committee as a moderator for this
event.
N. A. Mark Estes III,
MD, is the director of the New England Cardiac Arrhythmia
Center at Tufts Medical Center and a professor of medicine at Tufts
University School of Medicine in Boston. His undergraduate degree
is from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from
the University of Cincinnati with distinction from both
institutions. He trained in medicine at New England Deaconess
Hospital, cardiology at New England Medical Center, and clinical
cardiac electro-physiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He
has served as the president of the Boston Board and Northeast
Affiliate of the American Heart Association. He is the immediate
past president of the Heart Rhythm Society and is the current chair
of the American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology.
His research interests are in the prediction and prevention of
sudden cardiac death and arrhythmias in athletes. He serves on the
editorial boards of nine journals and is the associate editor of
two. He has received multiple awards and honors, including the AHA
Paul Dudley
White Award in 2009, and has more than 350 publications.
Kenneth J. Mukamal, MD,
MPH, is an internist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical
Center, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical
School, and a visiting scientist in nutrition at the Harvard School
of Public Health. With funding from the National Institute on
Alcohol and Alcoholism, he has examined the interplay of drinking
patterns, cardiovascular risk factors, candidate gene pathways, and
underlying comorbidity on cardiovascular and other chronic diseases
in a number of population studies, including the Nurses' Health
Study and the Cardiovascular Health Study. Dr. Mukamal recently
initiated a six-month randomized trial of daily alcohol
consumption, the longest experimental trial of alcohol yet
performed.
Ayan R.
Patel, MD, FACC, is director of the Cardiovascular Imaging
and Hemodynamic Laboratory and director of the Women's Heart Center
at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. She is an associate professor of
medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Patel received
her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. She
completed her internal medicine training at Boston University
Medical Center, followed by a cardiovascular disease fellowship at
Tufts Medical Center. She has had a long-standing research interest
in women's vascular health, as well as a clinical interest in the
diagnosis and prevention of heart disease in women.
Samia
Mora, MD, MHS, FACC, is a board-certified internist and
cardiologist with specialized training in cardiovascular
epidemiology and echocardiography. Dr. Mora has appointments in the
Divisions of Cardiovascular Disease and Preventive Medicine in the
Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and is an
assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. She also
serves the American Heart Association as chair of the Women in
Cardiology Committee, as scientific advisor to the Choose to Move
Program, and as a member of the Executive Database Steering
Committee. She is also a Writing Member of the American College of
Cardiology/ American Heart Association Primary Prevention of
Cardiovascular Disease Performance Measures Writing Committee.
