Colorectal Cancer Screening Guidelines

Overview

Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains the 3rd most commonly diagnosed cancer among men and women and the second overall leading cause of cancer-related death. Despite declines in both incidence and mortality over the past 2 decades, ~ 142,480 new cases and ~50,830 deaths are projected for 2013. This CME activity encompasses the most recent guidelines on screening initiation, screening intervals and screening follow-up.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the epidemiology of colorectal cancer (CRC).
  • Articulate the rationale for early screening of CRC.
  • List screening options and provide supporting evidence for these options.
  • Summarize screening recommendations and interval screenings.
