Dr. Scott Gilbert is honored by Massachusetts Medical Society for outstanding contributions to medical education

Scott GilbertWALTHAM – Dr. Scott Gilbert, a professor at Tufts University School of Medicine and fellowship director for Tufts Medical Center’s Division of Nephrology, has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society as the 2018 recipient of the Grant V. Rodkey Award, an honor recognizing a Massachusetts physician for outstanding contributions to medical education and medical students.

Gilbert was nominated by a host of medical students, all of whom praised their mentor for his willingness to engage and excite.

“Dr. Gilbert exemplifies what it means to be an excellent educator,” medical student Serena Lofftus said. “It is the amount of care he takes in getting know the students, providing resources and answering questions, and his passion for the subject of nephrology that makes his course such a success. Outside of the classroom, he is equally as engaged: greeting students by name, taking opportunities to advise them in their careers, and organizing clinical experiences in nephrology.”

Gilbert, a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis), serves on the medical advisory board of the National Kidney Foundation and, in 2016, was part of the Boston Marathon medical staff.
