East Weymouth physician is honored by Norfolk South District Medical Society as 2013 Community Clinician of the Year

Delaney - 2013 Community Clinician of the Year - Norfolk South
Dr. Mary Delaney with her husband, Stephen, honored as the 2013 Community Clinician of the Year of the Norfolk South District  Medical Society. 

Waltham – April 30 – East Weymouth resident Mary L. Delaney, M.D. has been honored by her peers of the Norfolk South District Medical Society as the 2013 Community Clinician of the Year. She received the award at the district’s annual meeting March 14 at the Neighborhood Club of Quincy.

The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant contributions to his or her patients and the community and who stands out as a leading advocate and caregiver. The Norfolk South District is comprised of some 450 physicians who live and work in South Shore communities.   

Dr. Delaney is a physician with Harbor Medical Associates in South Weymouth, a primary care and specialty services medical practice serving the South Shore. She was honored for her efforts in the district society’s annual Smoking-Don’t Go There Program, an annual public service effort by district society physicians group that reaches middle and high-school students throughout the South Shore with anti-tobacco messages. Dr. Delaney has participated in the program since its inception 14 years ago.

A graduate of the Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Delaney is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. She received her bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from Regis College and her master’s in biochemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo.  

Her previous honors include nomination to the Pharmacology Honor Society in graduate school, and membership in the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society and the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society.
