Waltham – May 13, 2013 – West Newbury resident David A. Byrne, M.D. has been honored as the 2013 Community Clinician of the Year by his physician peers of the Essex North District Medical Society.
The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant contributions to his or her patients and the community and who stands out as a leading caregiver. The Essex North district is comprised of more than 400 physicians who live and work in 16 communities in northern Essex County. The award was presented April 24 at the district society’s annual meeting at Salvatore’s Function Facility in Lawrence.
Dr. Byrne retired in 2011 after practicing primary care in Haverhill and Georgetown for more than 30 years. Board certified in internal medicine, he was a physician with Parker River Medical Associates and Pentucket Medical Associates in Georgetown and Whittier Medical Associates in Haverhill. From 1985-1996, he also served as the City Physician for Haverhill and was the Student Health Physician at Northern Essex Community College from 1976-1980.
A member of the Massachusetts Medical Society since 1990, he was a member of its House of Delegates and served as a board member and treasurer of the Essex North District Medical Society.
A graduate of Williams College with a B.A., Dr. Byrne received his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine.
