Waltham, Mass. – May  13, 2013 – Weston resident Najmosama Nikrui, M.D. has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society with its Committee Chair Service Award, an honor recognizing exceptional leadership and service to the Society, the statewide professional association of physicians. She received the award at the Society’s annual meeting in Boston on May 11.

Dr. Nikrui was recognized for her nine years of service as a member of the Committee on Women in Medicine, including four years as committee chair from 2009-2013 and two as vice chair  from 2008-2009. The Committee’s mission is to identify, address, and educate fellow professionals about key issues of concern to women in medicine.  

Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Nikrui is Chief of Gynecology at Boston VA Health Care System and an Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harvard Medical School. She previously worked as an associate gynecologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and as a gynecology oncologist at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield and Hallmark Health System.  

Dr. Nikrui is a graduate of Shiraz University School of Medicine, affiliated with Pennsylvania   State University. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency and gynecology oncology fellowship at Downstate Medical Center, School of Medicine, State University of New York, in Brooklyn, New York, and her medical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute in New York.
 
A member of the Massachusetts Medical Society since 1976, Dr. Nikrui has also served the society as a member of its House of Delegates, a member of its Committee on Medical Service, and as vice president of the Suffolk District Medical Society.  She is a past president of the New England Association of Gynecological Oncologists. She currently serves as   a member of the board of directors of Physicians Insurance Agency of Massachusetts.
