Mariann Manno, M.D.

Waltham/Worcester – April 30 -- Mariann Manno, M.D., a pediatric emergency medical physician and the Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center, has been honored by her peers as the 2013 Community Clinician of the Year of the Worcester District Medical Society.

The Community Clinician of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Massachusetts Medical Society to recognize a physician from each of the Society’s 20 district medical societies who has made significant contributions to his or her patients and the community and who stands out as a leading advocate and caregiver. The Worcester District has nearly 1,700 physicians as members. The award will be presented April 10 at the district’s annual business meeting at the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester.

In nominating her for the award, District Medical Society President Michael Hirsh, M.D. said “Dr. Manno has distinguished herself as an outstanding public health advocate. She began co-directorship of the Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Worcester in 2002, and since that time she has been a prolific innovator, grant writer and community leader who helped to create the Mobile Safety Street Project. She has designed the Teen Ride Program (Reality Intensive Driver’s Education) and has been a co-founder of the Worcester Goods for Guns Project.”

Dr. Manno is a graduate of the New York University School of Medicine. She served her residency in pediatrics at UMass Medical Center and was Chief Resident in Pediatrics there from 1983-1985.  Board certified in pediatrics, she has been previously honored as a Leader in Quality by the Massachusetts Medical Law Report in 2010.  She is a resident of Sudbury.
