The Physician Fact Book compares the physicians in Massachusetts to those in the United States.  The book reviews physician supply, physician demographics, current and past physician shortages, as well as average physician compensation within the state. Moreover, the Fact Book reviews the rate of change in medical school applications in Massachusetts as compared to the United States. It also covers the percentage of Massachusetts physicians accepting new patients by specialty, as well as the average wait time in days by Massachusetts physician specialty. Finally, data from Massachusetts Health Quality Partners was incorporated into the Fact Book to highlight various healthcare quality process and outcome measures over the past ten years in Massachusetts.

Sources of information for the graphs in the Physician Fact Book are comprehensive, including, the U.S. Census Bureau, the American Medical Association, the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, Massachusetts Medical Society Physician Workforce Study, Massachusetts Medical Society Practice Environment Index, and Massachusetts Health Quality Partners.
