MMS-Brandeis Physician Executive Leadership Certificate Program Launches
Physician leadership is key to successfully implementing and managing a new health care paradigm. MMS and The Heller School at Brandeis University have developed a dynamic Executive Leadership Certificate Program for current and future health care leaders.

In six interactive sessions held between September 2013 and May 2014, physicians will improve their leadership skills while learning from leading edge, world-renowned health care thought-leaders who will teach concepts and introduce tools that will help to improve quality, efficiency, and expand innovation for physician practices.

Distinguished faculty includes Stuart Altman, PhD, Chair, Board of the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission and Professor of National Health Policy at Brandeis University, Jon A. Chilingerian, PhD, Professor and Director of Executive Education, The Heller School, Jody Hoffer Gittell, PhD, Professor, The Heller School, and Barbara Spivak, MD, President, Mount Auburn Cambridge Independent Practice Association.

In his latest blog, MMS President Ronald Dunlap, M.D., writes about a recent nationwide survey in which 60% of physicians said they wouldn’t recommend their profession as a career. “It’s likely most physicians aren’t surprised at the result,” he writes. “Changes to our profession have been fast and extensive in recent years, and we’re constantly adjusting to new demands. October Deadline for Physicians to Make Medicare Service Provider Changes
Massachusetts physicians who bill Medicare need to confirm through their billing workflow and vendors that they will be ready for the change to National Government Services on October 25, 2013. NGS is providing a series of webinar workshops to explain the details of this change. The first is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 19.  See more information and registration details here.

Boston Hospital Executives Earned Up to $2.1m in 2011 
Chief executives at the Boston area's largest nonprofit teaching hospitals drew pay packages of $1 million to $2.1 million in 2011, including salaries, bonuses, and compensation such as health and life insurance and retirement benefits.

New Study: Partners Hospitals Top Mass. Health Payment List 
Nearly one-third of all the money that Massachusetts insurers spent on acute hospital care last year went to Partners HealthCare, according to a new Patrick administration analysis. The same report found that state premiums rose 9.7 percent between 2009 and 2011, while the value of that coverage shrank 5.1 percent. Tufts Medical, Vanguard Launch Health Insurance Plan 
Tufts Medical Center, its doctors' group and Vanguard Health System are launching a new health plan. Funded by an $88.5 million loan from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and will be governed by its members.

South Shore Medical Center to Open New Norwell Campus 
The new medical building will make room for more providers in Norwell and open the door to more patients.

January 2014: Patients Formerly in “Dual Eligible” Medicare/Medicaid Programs Transitioning to Mass Health’s One Care Program 
Patients with dual-eligibility for Medicare and Medicaid will be transitioning to MassHealth’s new One Care program beginning January 2014. The transition, expected to affect more than 90,000 Massachusetts residents in eight counties, will take several months to complete. More details here

Recall of All Products for Sterile Use from Compounding Pharmacy located in Cedar Park, Texas.
The FDA is alerting health care providers and patients of a voluntary nationwide recall of all products produced and distributed for sterile use by Specialty Compounding, LLC, Cedar Park, Texas. There have been recent reports of bacterial bloodstream infections potentially related to the company's calcium gluconate infusions. More details on the recall
