Bridging the Legal Gap: MMS Member Service for BORIM-Related Issues

Professional liability policies may not cover complaints that arise before the Board of Registration in Medicine (BORIM). The MMS Legal Advisory Plan (LAP) fills the gap to protect its members.

Some BORIM issues are covered by a malpractice policy, but coverage can be limited. The LAP helps cover initial expenses in a BORIM investigation, which in turn helps physicians avoid hitting financial caps imposed by malpractice policies.

Physicians in a practice can enroll in the Plan, an exclusive members-only, low-cost legal service. Two enrollment options are available: either enroll the entire group, or each physician can join individually. There are additional discounts for groups of five or more.

“More members are taking advantage of the group LAP membership, a valuable addition to a group’s benefit portfolio. The Plan also ensures that the licenses of the physicians within the practice are safeguarded with the benefit of legal counsel,” said Dr. Judd Kline, chair of the MMS Committee on Member Services.
