Massachusetts Medical Society on Ways and Means Committee Surprise Billing Legislation

Waltham - Massachusetts Medical Society on Ways and Means Committee Surprise Billing Legislation

Massachusetts Medical Society on Ways and Means Committee Surprise Billing Legislation. The physicians of the Massachusetts Medical Society applaud Chairman Richard Neal and the House Ways and Means Committee in devising a thoughtful solution to the issue of surprise medical bills which we know bring undue stress and financial burden to our patients.

The Ways and Means bill, importantly, provides strong patient protections, including shielding patients from receiving these unavoidable medical bills. At the same time, this approach incentivizes insurers and physicians to work in good faith to resolve the surprise bill.

The Massachusetts Medical Society supports Chairman Neal’s deliberative work to find a balanced solution, which holds patients harmless from surprise bills, while still promoting a marketplace that benefits patients and physicians alike.
