The
first stage of Meaningful Use objectives from the federal
government took effect Jan. 1, 2011. These objectives have two
sections:
Core Set
All 15 objectives in this section must be met. The
objectives fall into four categories:
- Improving Quality, Safety, Efficiency, and Reducing Health Care
Disparities
- Engage Patients and Families in Their Health Care
- Improve Care Coordination
- Ensure Adequate Privacy and Security Protections for Personal
Health Information

Eligible professionals may choose 5 from this
set of 10. One of the objectives must be from the category "Improve
Population and Public Health." These objectives fall into four
categories:
