The MMS maintains a Medical Malpractice Tribunal List. The list
is a directory of physicians who are actively interested in and
available for tribunal service.
In every Massachusetts medical malpractice case, a tribunal
comprised of a physician in the same specialty as the defendant, an
attorney and a judge consider the preliminary evidence and make a
threshold determination of whether there are sufficient grounds for
the plaintiff to proceed to trial. Tribunals screen out
approximately 16% of all medical malpractice cases in
Massachusetts. The Society believes that the tribunal system is an
effective way for physicians to assist each other while learning
more about the legal process. In addition, you can earn Category 1
CME credits for your participation on a tribunal.
If you would like to find out more about tribunal service, or

Counsel, 800-322-2303, ext. 7242; Fax: (781) 893-9369; e-mail: tribunal@mms.org.
