ACO Governance Models: Key Findings & Best Practices

ACO Governance ModelsCreating the right governance structure for an accountable care organization is critically important. A study conducted by the Commonwealth Fund found that the majority of the governance models reported by hospitals participating or planning to participate in an ACO was either a joint venture between physicians and hospitals or was physician-led.

To determine the best practices for the governance of accountable care organizations, the MMS interviewed leaders of seven integrated health systems around the country to learn their governance practices. This report outlines the findings from those interviews.
