Dr. Cheryl Greenfield honored by the Bristol North District Medical Society with the 2024 Community Clinician of the Year Award

Cheryl Greenfield

WALTHAM – Dr. Cheryl Greenfield, a pediatrician from Marion, has been honored by the Bristol North District Medical Society as the 2024 Community Clinician of the Year awardee.

Greenfield earned her MD at Boston University School of Medicine. After completing her internship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and her residency at Boston City Hospital, Cheryl had the great privilege of being welcomed into Greenfield and Greenfield Pediatrics with her father Theodore (Ted) Greenfield. Building on his 33 years of health care for infants and children, she created one of the earliest adolescent healthcare practices in Massachusetts and continued to guide that practice for 16 years. Her community involvement began in Brockton with health education talks to teens and prenatal education for prospective parents.

Growing up in a medical family, Greenfield saw patient care and hospital rounds as part of daily family life, like reading the daily newspaper. Still, for a female in the early 1970s, deciding to become a doctor meant reaching outside the box. Thankfully, her undergraduate experience at Simmons College equipped her to do just that.

When it came time to start her family, Greenfield chose a quieter environment and transitioned to practice in Marion with Charles (Sherm) Gleason. She quickly became the primary at Gleason and Greenfield Pediatrics, where for the past 30 years, she has practiced alongside her therapy dog - caring for patients from birth to age 24.

She continues to donate her time as consulting physician to preschools, grammar schools and a local camp. Most recently Greenfield’s interest in clinical innovation has inspired her to incorporate lifestyle medicine into her practice. Together with community partners, she is integrating healthy food, physical activity, stress reduction and community connections into the lives of the children and families. She is an active member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

Greenfield has been a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics for 42 years. She served on the medical staff at Brockton Hospital and currently is on the medical staff of Saint Luke's Hospital New Bedford. For the past 25 years Cheryl has been a practice medical representative at Affiliated Pediatric Practices. She continues to enjoy precepting medical students, nurse practitioner students, physician assistant students, and medical assistant students and has been on the associate teaching staff of Boston University School of Medicine, Regis College, and Johnson and Wales University.
