Scholarship Announcement

The Suffolk District Medical Society announced its first annual medical student scholarship program in 2009. The district leadership has come to realize the increasing problem of medical student debt and would like to offer students in the district an opportunity to receive a scholarship.

Three awards of $3,000 each will be granted.

Eligibility:

  1. Enrollment in good standing in the MD program of a Massachusetts medical school
  2. Eligible for 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students
  3. Membership in the Suffolk District Medical Society
  4. One award per individual – no repeat awardees in future years

Requirements:

  1. Cover letter with a brief statement of personal goals
  2. Curriculum vitae containing legal residential address (maximum 2 pages)
  3. A statement of academic standing from the medical school
  4. Participation and/or commitment to organized medicine
  5. A letter of recommendation from a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society (preferably a Suffolk District member), and not from a medical student or resident

Selection criteria:

  1. Quality of personal statement
  2. Academic and literary achievements
  3. Interest in community service or advocacy
  4. A diversity of represented medical schools will be sought

Application deadline: December 31.

The scholarship awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Suffolk District Medical Society, typically held in March/April. Email completed applications to:

Dr. Marielle C. Baldwin awarded 2024 Community Clinician of the Year at Suffolk District Medical Society Annual Meeting

The Suffolk District Medical Society hosted its district annual meeting on Tuesday, March 19, at the UMass Club, Boston. At that meeting, they honored 2024 Community Clinician of the Year Dr. Marielle C. Baldwin.

Dr. Marielle Baldwin honored by the Suffolk District Medical Society as 2024 Community Clinician of the Year

Marielle Baldwin

WALTHAM – Dr. Marielle Baldwin, a family medicine physician at Boston Medical Center, has been selected as the Suffolk District Medical Society’s 2024 Community Clinician of the Year.

Baldwin is a leader in health equity and outpatient addiction treatment and serves as an assistant professor of medicine at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. Additionally, she is the medical director of BMC’s Stimulant Treatment and Recovery Team (START).

Baldwin was the inaugural recipient of the Massachusetts Medical Society’s Barbara A. Rockett, MD Early Career Physician Leadership Award, which recognizes an early career physician who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in organized medicine, patient advocacy, and mentorship.

Baldwin is a graduate of Emory University, the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.
