Information and Resources for Medical Students

If you are a medical student and are having problems with substance use, behavioral health issues, or mental or physical illness, there is help!

Physician Health Services, Inc. and the Massachusetts Medical Schools created the Medical Student Advisory Committee in 2004, establishing a mission statement, goals and objectives, and medical student monitoring contacts.  The Committee continues to develop effective strategies to educate and assist medical students.

Please contact PHS at 781-434-7343 with any questions or concerns.  We are here to help!

Each of the medical schools also provides health services and programs to students.

FAQs

Will I maintain control over the process if I self-refer to PHS?
PHS does have a process for conducting assessments, making referrals to treatment, and offering monitoring services when this is indicated.  However, PHS is a voluntary program.  If you are being referred by your school, work site, or administrator, there may be some expectations on their end with respect to your follow through and cooperation with the PHS process. However, if you are truly self-referred, you can decide how much or how little assistance you would like, and whether or not to proceed with PHS recommendations.
