Massachusetts Medical Society: MMS Letter to the House Congressional Delegation Regarding the American Health Care Act

MMS Letter to the House Congressional Delegation Regarding the American Health Care Act

Dear Member of the Massachusetts House Congressional Delegation:

I am writing on behalf of the 25,000 physicians, residents and medical students who represent the Massachusetts Medical Society to support your continued opposition to the American Health Care Act. If enacted, this law would result in millions of Americans losing access to health care and erode the foundation of those essential health care programs dedicated to serving children, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable patient populations. The physicians of the Massachusetts Medical Society are committed to working with you, and the entire Massachusetts Congressional Delegation, to ensure that the progress that was made in securing patients access to necessary health insurance and medical care is not lost in this political debate.

As you are well aware, the bill going to House floor for a vote today exacerbates problems created by the previous proposal.  We continue to believe that passage of this bill would be a disaster.  In Massachusetts and elsewhere, this legislation would deprive many of the subsidies that make health insurance affordable; would end the Medicaid expansion that has helped so many; and would result in children, seniors, pregnant women and wide array of patients losing access to essential health care services.

On behalf our patients and physicians members, I would like to thank you and our entire Congressional delegation for your efforts on behalf of our patients by opposing the American Health Care Act.  We look forward to working closely with you on this important issue going forward.

James S. Gessner, MD
