This module will review the available clinical evidence for the use of cannabis in the treatment of multiple sclerosis and spasticity.

Learning Objectives

After reading this material, a participant will be able to:

  • List some of the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis that may be relieved by cannabis/cannabinoid therapy
  • Discuss the use of cannabinoid-based therapies to treat the symptoms of multiple sclerosis, including spasticity and lower urinary tract symptoms
  • Discuss the results of the CAMS study (Cannabinoids in MS) 
  • Discuss the results of the MUSEC study (Multiple Sclerosis and Extracts of Cannabis)
  • Discuss the American Academy of Neurology's recommendations about the use of cannabinoid-based products for the treatment of the symptoms of MS
  • Discuss the impact of cannabinoid-based medicines on the depressive symptoms associated with MS
