Worcester Physician is Honored as Massachusetts Medical Society's 2010 Senior Volunteer Physician of the Year

Waltham, Mass. -- April 8, 2010 -- Worcester physician John A. Riordan, M.D. has been honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society with its 2010 Senior Volunteer Physician Award, an honor recognizing a senior member of the society who has a dedicated commitment to volunteerism and  to sharing experience and medical expertise. The award will be presented May 13 at the Seaport Hotel in Boston at the Society's annual meeting. 

Dr. Riordan first began his practice of pediatrics in Worcester in 1956, the year he became a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society. He then joined the Fallon Clinic, where he worked for 30 years. Since his retirement in 1995, he has volunteered at the Green Island Medical Clinic (now closed), the St. Anne's Free Clinic in Shrewsbury, and Our Lady of Providence Free Clinic at St. Bernard's Church in Worcester.

Dr. Riordan spends approximately four to six hours each week volunteering, for nine months of the year.  He sees some 150 patients every year. His primary activities include attending to pediatric patients for school physicals, immunizations, and sick visits.
