MassPAT: Incorporating the New PMP into Your Practice
MassPAT (Massachusetts Prescription Awareness Tool) is the new Prescription Monitoring Program's (PMP) online system launched by the MA Department of Public Health on August 22, 2016. As many functions of the old system have changed or have expanded, the Massachusetts Medical Society and the MA Department of Public Health have developed this course, based on an archived webinar, to address various legal and regulatory requirements and to help prescribers implement use of this tool into daily clinical workflow. This online course also addresses how prescribers can use MassPAT to inform best prescribing habits.

Learning Objectives
After reading this material, a participant will be familiar with:
- Describe how to access and navigate the new prescription monitoring program, including use of advanced functionality
- Discuss the legal and regulatory requirements for use of the new prescription monitoring program
- Demonstrate how to effectively use the new prescription monitoring program to promote best clinical practice with regard to opioid prescribing.
- Integrate the use of the new prescription monitoring system into the clinical workflow, including how to effectively utilize patient information from the PMP.

Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Counsel at the Massachusetts Medical Society. Prior to coming to MMS, he worked in the legal department at an academic medical center and was the heath policy researcher at the New England Journal of Medicine.
