Dukes County Health Council - $10,000
Term of Grant: January 2002 through December 2002

Grant awarded to bring residents and medical students on rotation to work with Island physicians to expand primary care resources through the Rural Health Scholars Program, in collaboration with Martha's Vineyard Hospital and the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Great Brook Valley Health Center, Inc. - $10,000
Term of Grant: December 2001 through November 2002

Great Brook Valley Health Center is committed to creating access to high quality, comprehensive health care for all people. Governed by its patients, the Health Center is dedicated to maintaining strong standards of excellence while respecting the diversity, dignity and confidentiality of its patients and staff. Grant awarded to reinforce protocols in their Medical Department that identify and assist patients suffering from depression. This will be accomplished through funding support for a Depression Nurse Case Manager  as part of an existing Depression Team.

Jane Doe Inc. - $25,000

Term of Grant: October 2001 through September 2002

Jane Doe Inc (JDI) brings together organizations and people committed to ending domestic violence and sexual assault. JDI creates social change by addressing the root causes of this violence and promotes safety, justice and healing for survivors. JDI advocates for responsive public policy, raises awareness and supports its 60 member organizations to provide comprehensive prevention and intervention services.  Grant awarded to enable JDI to focus their work in health issues to three distinct and related areas: 1) HIV Counseling and Testing, 2) Statewide Healthcare Awareness, Response, Resource and Education on Domestic Violence; and 3) Member Capacity Building and Technical Assistance.

Massachusetts Citizens for Children - $20,000

Term of Grant: February 2002 through January 2003

Massachusetts Citizens for Children is a non-profit statewide child advocacy organization, whose mission is to improve the lives of the state's most vulnerable children through advocacy by concerned citizens. Grant awarded to support the training expenses and prevention related materials associated with the Central Massachusetts Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Campaign as outlined in the State Call to Action:  Working to End Child Abuse and Neglect in Massachusetts.

Samaritans of the Merrimack Valley, Inc. - $10,000

Term of Grant: December 2001 through November 2002

The purpose of the Samaritans program is to assist schools, faith communities, and community organization in developing comprehensive suicide prevention strategies by providing consultation, training, and technical assistance in early identification and mental health screening for at risk consumers, development of crisis response policies and teams, and training to increase knowledge about suicide and how to assist those in emotional crisis. Grant awarded to augment the recently awarded Massachusetts Department of Public Health grant to help implement the Educating for Life Program,  a school-based suicide prevention program, with the addition of a new staff position of Health Educator.

The Hospitality Program - $5,000

Term of Grant: December 2001 through November 2002

The Hospitality Program provides a caring response to the housing needs of patients and their families who travel to the Boston area for medical care. The program provides comfortable short-term housing in the homes of volunteer hosts. Grant awarded to support the Needs Assessment Project of a Three Year Strategic Plan. The purpose of the needs assessment is to obtain the information, facts and figures the organization needs to proceed into the future.

2023-2024 Grants

The Foundation awarded $183,500 to 16 Massachusetts non-profits addressing the most vulnerable in our communities, with the majority of the funds awarded supporting access to health care, behavioral health services, and food insecurity. Additionally, $12,000 was awarded to six medical students and four resident physicians to offset travel and lodging expenses for study abroad.
