Summary
The (re) accreditation process may feel a bit
overwhelming at times. All MMS surveyors are actively involved in CME
and appreciate the time, energy, and resources that quality CME demands.
They understand how much work goes into creating a good (re)
accreditation application. While the MMS Essential Areas and Elements
(including the Standards for Commerical Support) and Accreditation
Policies represent sound educational practice, there are no guarantees
that all planning will result in well-received presentations. The MMS
application is designed to look at continually improving the CME
learning opportunities that each provider offers its physicians.
Some of the adminstrative requirements such as a planning system and
attendance and record keeping files take time to set up. Experience
helps to make the documentation requirements more manageable. However,
there is no doubt that the most critical components of this quality
improvement system are the strong commitment of the DMEs, the CME
Committees, and the CME Coordinators who continue to work on improving
CME learning opportunities.
MMS surveyors, members of The Committee on
Accreditation Review and staff of MMS's Department of Continuing
Education and Certification are available for questions and/or
consultations. Feel free to contact Ms. Danna Muir, MMS Accreditation
Program Manager for more information. Phone: (800) 322-2303 x7304
