Course Information

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This activity is designed for Directors of Medical Education (DME), MMS Accreditation surveyors, CME Committee members and CME Coordinators. It is intended to help those involved in CME review to update their understanding of the requirements for MMS accreditation. It is also helpful for those new to CME. MMS surveyors may use this activity to reinforce and expand their knowledge and skills to conduct surveys.

The goals of this activity are to enable participants to:

  • Understand the MMS requirements for accreditation

  • Gain a better understanding (or reinforcement) of the Essential Areas and Elements (including the Standards for Commercial Support)

  • Translate the MMS Essential Areas and their Elements to a CME program

  • Learn valuable methods to plan, implement and evaluate quality CME programs while complying with the Essential Areas for accreditation

  • Consider ways in which the accreditation requirements support quality programming

COURSE CREDIT

DEADLINE for completing course is May 31, 2008.

The Massachusetts Medical Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This program meets the criteria of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for risk management study.

The Massachusetts Medical Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

A confirmation of credit will be issued at the end of the course to those who successfully complete the examination with a score of at least 70%.

This course and all associated course materials are available free of charge. An opportunity to complete the exam and receive 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for a nominal fee is available at the end of the course. The course fees are as follows:
