Essential Area 2: Educational Planning and Evaluation

Element 2.4

Evaluate the effectiveness of its CME activities in meeting identified educational needs.

A provider must develop an appropriate evaluation method to measure whether needs (as reflected in the program objectives) are met through individual CME activities. It may also be helpful to know other things such as what participants say are the ‘take home’ messages or whether the room was comfortable and conducive to learning. An evaluation form given to everyone in the room is appropriate, but not the only way to evaluate. Another way to gather information might be to have a more in-depth review by a limited number of attendees or to email a follow up evaluation to participants. A high response rate is essential to know if the ratings and comments reflect the sentiment of the group. The evaluation method must be appropriate to the format and provide feedback that helps the committee assess the value of the activity.
