Essential Area 3: Administration

Element 3.2

Operate the business and management policies and procedures of its CME program (as they relate to human resources, financial affairs, and legal obligations) so that its obligations and commitments are met.

A CME unit need not develop their own policy manual, although some institutions find it helpful. The Table of Contents from the parent organization's manual of business and management policies may be submitted. A CME unit must have some of its own policies and standards in order to 'conduct business'. Those policies and forms include: Standards for Commercial Support, Faculty Disclosure of Relationships with Industry and Joint Sponsorship, Letter of Agreement and other policies as outlined in Element 3.1.  A provider must have a mechanism to resolve potential faculty conflicts of interest.
