Course Overview
This CME
module was developed from a live program, The Public
Health Leadership Forum: Violence - Implications for Health, held
on April 29, 2009 at MMS headquarters in Waltham, MA. Violence
from a Public Health Perspective: The Impact of Violence on Society
is one of five modules that focus on violence as a public health
and social policy issue addressing gaps in three areas: current practice
patterns, what we have learned, and what needs to change. The
module presentations also examine various forms of violence and
vulnerable populations from the perspectives of health, public health,
and public policy. The current economic situation and its impact on
violence are also a topic of discussion.
Furthermore, presentation modules address best practices and seek
to answer what the health care/public health community, corporate and
community leaders, and policymakers can do to affect change. Utilizing
slides synchonized with audio and transcription you can experience Dr.
Rosenberg's presentation.

Intended Audience
This program is intended for
physicians, nurses, office managers, and other staff at physician
practices.
Course Objectives

Cite the implications of violence
with regard to overall health status and costs.

Assess individual exposure to
violence and use assessment to influence communication, intervention and
treatment plans.

Identify population based
approaches to addressing violence and discuss options for public-private
initiatives.

is March 7, 2011.
The Massachusetts Medical Society
designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1
AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only
claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the
activity.
This program meets the criteria of
the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for risk management
study.
Participants will receive a
confidential report of their examination score. You must receive a score
of 70% or better to receive AMA PRA Category 1
Credit™. A confirmation of credit will be issued at the
end of the course to those who successfully complete the
examination.
This activity has been planned and
implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the Joint
Sponsorship of the Massachusetts Medical Society and the Harvard School
of Public Health Division of Public Health Practice.

Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for
