Case Study
A general practice physician
operates a solo practice in a town composed primarily of English
speaking residents. The population of her practice reflects the
town’s demographics, and thus she infrequently sees patients with
Limited English Proficiency (LEP). This physician accepts and treats
several Medicare patients. A patient’s mother, who speaks only
Spanish, schedules an appointment for a routine check-up. This physician
knows a fellow general practitioner in the same town that employs a
nurse who is fluent in Spanish.
