Waltham
- Maryanne C. Bombaugh, MD, MSc, MBA, FACOG, an
obstetrician/gynecologist who has been caring for patients for more than
25 years and currently a
gynecologist at the Community Health Center of Cape Cod, was
elected president of the Massachusetts Medical Society at the
organization’s annual meeting May 3 at the Seaport Hotel in Boston.
Dr. Bombaugh, a Falmouth resident and a veteran of the United States military, will serve a one-year term as the top officer of the medical society, the statewide professional association
of physicians and medical students with more than 25,000 members.
Dr. Bombaugh earned her medical degree
from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and
completed her internship at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam
Houston Texas and her residency at Walter Reed Army
Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
She served 12 years in the United States
Army Medical Corps and completed her military service as the Division
Chief of Gynecology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Dr. Bombaugh has a history of extensive
service to the Massachusetts Medical Society, including positions on the
Committee on Strategic Planning, Committee on the Quality of Medical
Practice, Committee on Finance, Committee on
Women in Medicine, and multiple Task Forces this year to include
Physician Communication and Opioids, Physician Burnout, and Governance.
She is the current chair of the Committee on Strategic Planning, and
previous chair of the organization’s Committee on
Legislation.
Dr. Bombaugh also serves as a delegate to
the American Medical Association (AMA) from Massachusetts, and was
recently appointed by the AMA as a member to its Council on Legislation.
Dr. Bombaugh is a director on the board of Coverys.
Dr. Bombaugh earned her undergraduate
degree from Smith College, a Master of Science degree from the School of
Public Health at the University of Massachusetts, and her Master’s
degree in Business Administration from the Isenberg
School of Management at the University of Massachusetts.
She was awarded a CPE designation from the
American Association of Physician Leadership, a graduate certificate in
the Business of Medicine from Johns Hopkins University, and is a
graduate of the executive leadership programs from
the Heller School of Management at Brandeis University, the Wharton
School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, the American
Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Leadership Institute at the
University of North Carolina, and the Executive Leadership
Program at the Harvard School of Public Health.
