Dr. Hugh Mahoney Scholarship Program

The Dr. Hugh Mahoney Scholarship, sponsored by the Middlesex North District Medical Society, is available to any medical school student who is enrolled and has completed one year at an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada. 

Eligibility:
Applicants must be a legal resident of one of the following towns comprising the district: Billerica, Chelmsford, Dracut, Dunstable, Groton, Lowell, Pepperell, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro and Westford.

Dr. Damian Folch honored by Middlesex North District Medical Society as 2023 Community Clinician of the Year

Damian Folch

Dr. Damian Folch has been selected as the Middlesex North District Medical Society’s 2023 Community Clinician of the Year, an award recognizing professionalism and contributions as a physician.

Folch is a primary care physician serving the Greater Lowell community, emphasizing lifestyle choices that contribute to the successful management of each patient’s health by empowering them to achieve the experience of well-being. He has served as a primary care physician in the communities of Reading, Malden, Andover, Lawrence and Lowell for the past 30 years.

Folch is a past president of the Middlesex North District Medical Society. His service to the Massachusetts Medical Society includes chairperson of the Committee on Ethnic Diversity and a position on the Presidential Task Force on Ethnic Diversity. He has been a member of the Minority Health Advisory Board of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

His passion is to use lifestyle medicine to empower patients and their families to make informed decisions that will transform their lives so they can live long, healthy lives.

Folch graduated from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 1978 and did a flexible internship at San Juan City Hospital, with elective at Boston City Hospital.

He is a Tufts Medicine Board trustee, vice-chair of the Greater Lowell Health Alliance and corporator of the Lowell General Hospital.

He earned a physician that “Exemplifies Complete Connected Care Award” and an “Exceptional Service to the Community Award” from Lowell General Hospital and has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Boston Magazine from 2017-2023.
